Alex Hoffman, Ph.D.
Dr. Alex Hoffman is a Staff Scientist in the Electrophysiology Section. He investigates the cellular actions of cannabinoids and other drugs by recording from living brain tissue to examine the effects of these drugs on chemical signaling between nerve cells. He also serves as the Chair of the Animal Care and Use Committee, which provides oversight of animal use in research. Dr. Hoffman earned his Ph.D. from the University of Colorado studying animal models of Parkinson’s Disease.
About This Talk
The use of animals in research has greatly advanced medical science, but also has generated controversy over the years. Dr. Hoffman will give an overview of the rules and regulations that govern the use of animals in biomedical research. He will also discuss animal models that are used to study health and disease in humans.
