Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship Translational Addiction Science

Posted 4 months ago
The Clinical Psychoneuroendocrinology and Neuropsychopharmacology (CPN) Section (https://irp.nida.nih.gov/organization/tamb/cpn/) is a translational and clinical laboratory of the National Institutes of Health Intramural Research Program (NIH IRP), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS),  jointly funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) and is currently recruiting a Post-Doctoral Fellow. The workplace is in NIDA's  Intramural Research Program (IRP) located in Baltimore, Maryland. The Post-Doctoral fellow will be involved in a variety of projects and clinical protocols relevant to the laboratory, under the supervision and mentoring of Dr. Lorenzo Leggio, Senior Investigator (Clinical) and Chief. The laboratory conducts human clinical and translational inpatient and outpatient studies to identify possible novel medications for addiction. The overall goal of these studies is to identify and develop novel effective treatments for alcohol and substance use disorders. The focus of the laboratory is to study novel pathways related to the microbiome-gut-liver-brain axis, neuroendocrine pathways, gut microbiome, and surgical manipulations of the gut-brain axis. Neuroimaging experiments are also employed and integrated in these human laboratory studies. The selected candidate will have access to lectures, educational, mentoring and grant training opportunities at the lab-level, and NIH-wide. An M.D., Ph.D., or equivalent degree is required. The fellowship is open to U.S. and foreign citizens. The ideal candidate will have strong background and skillsets related to addiction, mental health and neuroscience. Experience in carrying over experimental medicine and human laboratory studies with research volunteers, including participants with alcohol and substance use disorders, is preferred. Interested candidates should submit a Curriculum Vitae, Cover Letter, a Statement of Research Background and Interests (up to two pages), and names/contact information for three references (including the reference’s work/email addresses and phone) to: Lorenzo Leggio, M.D., Ph.D., Senior Investigator and Chief of TAMB, NIDA IRP at lorenzo.leggio@nih.gov PDF or MS Word format only – paper applications will not be accepted)   Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. The NIH is dedicated to building a diverse community in its training and employment programs. DHHS and NIH are Equal Opportunity Employers. The NIH encourages the application and nomination of qualified women, minorities, and individuals with disabilities.

Postdoctoral Fellow – Mechanisms and Treatment of Substance Use Disorders, Fiber Photometry and Neurotransmitter Biosensors

Posted 11 months ago

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), is recruiting a postdoctoral fellow to study mechanisms and novel treatment strategies related to substance use disorders (SUD). The position is within the Medication Development Program at the Intramural Research Program (IRP) in Baltimore, MD.

Our research is aimed at addressing the key-pathways, brain areas, mechanisms of action and pharmacologic targets for development of SUD medications. Our facilities are highly collaborative, fostering the possibility to interact and collaborate with internationally renowned basic science and clinical NIDA-IRP investigators. Our neurochemistry suite is expanding to include in vivo fiber photometry analysis of neurotransmitters (dLight, GRABDA, etc.). Behavioral, electrochemistry, EEG, and neurochemistry equipment are also available for full-time research. This multidisciplinary effort will also include investigating novel drugs in preclinical models of SUD in rodents. Individuals with interests and expertise in fiber photometry and neurotransmitter biosensors to study CNS disease mechanisms and treatment are especially encouraged to apply. In addition to the research activities and projects, the post-doctoral fellow will have access to educational, mentoring and grant writing training opportunities at the NIDA- and NIH-wide levels.

An M.D., Ph.D., or equivalent degree is required. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in fiber photometry and optogenetics techniques and a Ph.D. related to neuroscience and/or pharmacology research. A research background in pharmacology, neuroscience, neurochemistry, behavioral science, biosensors and/or drug abuse neurobiology is preferred. The position is open to both U.S. and non-U.S. citizens.

To apply, please send a CV, one-page statement of research background and interests, and arrange for 3 letters of recommendation to be sent to: Dr. Gianluigi Tanda, Email: gianluigi.tanda@nih.gov NIDA-IRP, 333 Cassell Drive, TRIAD Bldg, Room 3301, Baltimore, MD 21224.

Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

Postdoctoral Research Fellowship- Molecular Targets and Medications Discovery Branch, Computational Chemistry and Molecular Biophysics Unit

Posted 3 years ago
Post-doctoral Fellow: The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is recruiting a postdoctoral fellow to work on scientific projects for studying the molecular mechanisms of the therapeutic targets for substance use disorders using computational approaches. The position is located in the Molecular Targets and Medications Discovery Branch, Computational Chemistry and Molecular Biophysics Unit, within the Intramural Research Program (IRP) located in Baltimore, Maryland. The primary projects for this position will utilize molecular modeling, simulation, and other computational approaches to investigate the structure-funtion relationships of G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs). In particular, dopamine receptors are implicated in various vital physiological functions - abnormalities in its regulation have been implicated in neuropsychiatric and substance use disorders. Our laboratory is equipped with state of the art high-performance computating infrastructure, and closely integrates in silico and in vitro studies either in-house or through collaborations. Overall, the NIDA IRP is an interactive collection of laboratories employing cutting edge methodologies devoted to understanding and reducing the risks of addiction. It is a highly collaborative and supportive environment for trainees. The ideal candidate should have extensive understanding and experiences on ligand-protein interactions. A strong scripting/programing background is preferred. The position is open to both U.S. and non-U.S. citizens. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in molecular biophysics, computational chemistry, or computational biology. Interested candidates must submit a CV and a one-page summary of research interests, as well as the names and contact information (work/email addresses, phone) of three references to: Dr. Lei Shi, Investigator, at lei.shi2@nih.gov. Applications must be submitted in PDF or MS word format only – paper applications will not be accepted. DHHS, NIH and NIDA are Equal Opportunity Employers. Applications from women, minorities, and persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged
