Betty Jo Salmeron, M.D.
Dr. Betty Jo Salmeron is a Staff Clinician in the Neuroimaging Branch. Her research interests include the nature of loss of control over drug use in addiction, predisposing factors versus consequences of addiction/drug use, and ethical issues in clinical research. She is currently investigating transcranial magnetic stimulation as a potential treatment for substance use disorders, using neuroimaging to better understand its effects on the brain. Dr. Salmeron obtained her M.D. from Baylor College of Medicine and completed her residency training in psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital.

About This Talk
This is an introduction to research on drug addiction (substance use disorder) using neuroimaging techniques, such as PET and MRI. Dr. Salmeron will discuss what neuroimaging can and can’t tell us about the effects of psychoactive drugs on the brain. She can tailor the talk to the interests of the audience.
