Betty Jo Salmeron, M.D.
Dr. Betty Jo Salmeron is a Staff Clinician in the Neuroimaging Branch. Her research interests include the nature of loss of control over drug use in addiction, predisposing factors versus consequences of addiction/drug use, and ethical issues in clinical research. She is currently investigating transcranial magnetic stimulation as a potential treatment for substance use disorders, using neuroimaging to better understand its effects on the brain. Dr. Salmeron obtained her M.D. from Baylor College of Medicine and completed her residency training in psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital.
About This Talk
Substance use disorder (SUD) is the current terminology for drug addiction. Dr. Salmeron will introduce basic concepts in SUD, including the progression from initial drug use to addiction, how someone is diagnosed with an SUD, and effective treatment strategies. She can tailor the talk to the interests of the audience.
