Research Interests
Thomas M. Keck received his B.S. in Biomedical-Biochemical Engineering from the University of Southern California in 2003. He worked for a year in the UCLA Department of Neurology, under Dr. Jeff Bronstein and Dr. Seema Tiwari-Woodruff, studying molecular regulation of oligodendrocyte progenitor proliferation and migration. From 2004-2009, Tom pursued a Ph.D. in Physiology and Pharmacology under the mentorship of Dr. David K. Grandy at Oregon Health & Science University, studying the regulation of behavior by the dopamine D4 receptor, particularly in response to the ADHD medication methylphenidate. He joined NIDA-IRP in 2009 as an IRTA Postdoctoral Fellow in the Medicinal Chemistry Section of the Molecular Targets and Medications Discovery Branch. In the laboratory of Dr. Amy Newman, Tom has developed and implemented a variety of pharmacological assays to evaluate novel small molecule research tools and potential medications. His research interests include the evaluation of receptor-drug interactions at the molecular level, how these interactions alter animal behavior, and developing medications for the treatment of psychostimulant addiction and other neuropsychiatric conditions..
