Background
Tammy Wang joined Dr. Leggio’s CPN laboratory in August 2021. She graduated from Vassar College with a Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience and Behavior. As an undergraduate, she strived to understand the neurobiological underpinnings of neurodegenerative diseases working to provide novel therapeutics through a blend of neuroimaging, neurochemical, neurogenetics, and behavioral techniques. In addition to studying the critical role astrocytes play in cognition using a miniature fluorescent microscope (miniscope), she explored how natural short sleep mutations may reduce the pathological progression of tau tangles and amyloid plaques in the brain to prevent Alzheimer’s disease. Her research interests lie in exploring the onset, progression, and complications of alcohol use disorder. At CPN, Tammy supports human clinical laboratory studies and will specifically investigate alcohol and substance use disorders in relation to bariatric surgery.
