Research Interests
Stephanie T. Weiss, MD PhD is the staff research physician serving the NIDA Intramural Research Program (IRP). After earning a Ph.D. in pharmaceutical chemistry, Dr. Weiss received her medical degree from Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. She then completed a residency in emergency medicine and two fellowships in addiction medicine and medical toxicology, a subspecialty that cares for patients with poisonings, environmental exposures, overdoses, and addiction. As an addiction toxicologist, she is board certified in both addiction medicine and medical toxicology. Dr. Weiss oversees the NIDA IRP medical team providing clinical support toward the NIDA IRP mission of conducting inpatient and outpatient proof-of-concept human laboratory studies, ensuring that all NIDA study participants receive optimal, safe, and ethical care. Her current research interests include repurposing of GLP-1RAs to treat addictive disorders, medication misuse, and improving interpretation of urine drug testing.
