Sara Deschaine, B.S.

Research Interests

Sara Deschaine is employed through Kelly Government Solutions as a research assistant/animal biologist. She received her Bachelor of Science from Clarkson University in biology with a minor in chemistry, cognitive neuroscience, and war studies. As an undergraduate, Sara did research on gold nanoparticle-therapeutic conjugates and received an NSF REU award to study synthetic lipoprotein formulations at the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy. Upon graduation, Sara furthered her experience in therapeutics research by working for CPN as a post-baccalaureate fellow, where she ran a phase 2a clinical trial of a ghrelin receptor inverse agonist/antagonist in a population with alcohol use disorder. Sara supports clinical research at CPN and provides technical support to multiple projects on alcohol and drug use through immunoassay of neuroendocrine peptides/hormones. She is currently investigating several research questions which include: the interaction between acute alcohol intake and the ghrelin system, a systematic review of leptin and alcohol use disorder, and pharmacological characterization of a ghrelin receptor antagonist/inverse agonist and its metabolite. She is interested in complex systems/systems biology approaches to characterizing the physiology of disease states, particularly addiction, to inform therapeutics development and plans to pursue graduate study accordingly.
