Research Interests
In 2021, Salma Pont received her B.A in Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. During her time there, she was a Research Assistant for the Tobacco Research and Intervention Lab where assisted with investigating the effect of a novel behavioral intervention on smoking in smokers with serious mental illness and investigating processes associated with cessation among e-cigarette users planning to quit e-cigarettes. She also worked as a Spanish Medical Interpreter where she facilitated communication for limited English-speaking patients and medical staff to ensure quality of care. Currently, in the Real-world Assessment, Prediction and Treatment Unit, she assists on a human laboratory study that is testing the safety and efficacy of a biased mu agonist for prevention and relief of opioid withdrawal in people with opioid use disorder. She is also assisting in a human laboratory interventional study of heavy social drinkers, with real-world outcome measures. Salma is primarily interested in examining real-world assessment of substance use and intervention development at the intersection of neuroscience, pharmacology and clinical psychology. She also hopes to better understand effective treatment strategies for substance use disorders.
