Research Interests
Dr. Sabrina Zequeira received her M.S. (2021) and Ph.D. (2026) in Neuroscience from the University of Florida, where she trained under the mentorship of Drs. Jennifer Bizon and Barry Setlow. She joined Dr. Leggio’s NIDA/NIAAA CPN Laboratory as a postdoctoral fellow in September 2026.
Her graduate research focused on the mechanisms underlying age-associated cognitive decline and the therapeutic potential of cannabinoids in aged rats. During her graduate training, she was supported by a Ruth L. Kirschstein NRSA T32 training award and received the Kalman/AFAR Scholarship for Research in the Biology of Aging and the Leighton E. Cluff Endowment Award for Aging Research. She also presented her research at several scientific conferences, including the Park City Winter Conference, the Cannabis Clinical Outcomes Research Conference (CCORC), and the Florida Consortium on the Neurobiology of Cognition (FCNC).
In the CPN Laboratory, Dr. Zequeira is currently expanding her research into human studies, with a focus on alcohol use disorder.
