Background
Miguel joined the Aponte lab as a postbaccalaureate research fellow after receiving a NIDA IRP Scientific Director’s Fellowship for Diversity in Research. Miguel received his Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of Texas at El Paso. During his undergraduate studies, he worked in a behavioral psychology lab researching the neurobiology of mood-related illnesses such as anxiety, stress, and major depressive-disorder. During his postbaccalaureate research, he studied hypothalamic neuronal circuits involved in natural and motivated behaviors, such as feeding and nociception. Miguel was a postbac in the lab from 2018 – 2020.
