Research Interests
Laura Murray completed her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Michigan, her clinical internship at Alpert Medical School at Brown University, and a NIDA-funded T32 postdoctoral fellowship at McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School. Her current research uses resting-state and task-based functional neuroimaging to characterize the neurobiological mechanisms of substance use disorders and how they relate to treatment-related outcomes like craving and relapse. Her prior work has characterized the relationships between reward-related brain function and internalizing and externalizing psychopathology. Ongoing projects are exploring how mental health symptoms (e.g., depression, externalizing, trauma) impact core neurobiological and behavioral processes related to addiction. The ultimate goal of her research is to use neurobiological mechanisms to inform tailored treatments for individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. She is a licensed clinical psychologist in Massachusetts, Maryland, and California and a member of the National Register of Health Service Psychologists.
