Research Interests
Kimberly Whiting joined CPN in August 2020. She graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a concentration in Neuroscience. Her undergraduate research focused on the interaction between stress, neuropeptides, and drug seeking behavior. Kimberly is primarily interested in studying the mechanisms underlying the addictions of alcohol, opioids, and food with the intention of developing effective pharmacological procedures for such disorders. She is involved in interdisciplinary collaborative research projects between and is co-mentored by Dr. Lorenzo Leggio and by Dr. Leandro Vendruscolo (Dr. Koob’s Neurobiology of Addiction Section, NIDA Intramural Research Program). She is currently conducting preclinical investigations of novel pharmacological treatments for alcohol and opioid use disorder.
