Research Interests
Isabella Ahearn joined CPN in May 2024. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Wesleyan University in December 2022, majoring in Neuroscience and minoring in Chemistry. As an underclassman, she joined the Melon Lab and studied alcohol-induced sensitization in mice. She then became a graduate student in the same lab, expanding her work to investigate epsilon-containing GABAaR-mediated tonic inhibition in the VTA and reduced sensitivity to natural rewards following sensitization and alcohol withdrawal in mice. She completed her Master’s in Neuroscience and her work in Melon Lab in January 2024. Under the co-mentorship of Dr. Lorenzo Leggio, Dr. Leandro Vendruscolo and Dr. George Koob, she will be conducting preclinical studies of novel treatments for substance abuse disorders.
