Research Interests
Comfort A. Boateng received her Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences (Medicinal Chemistry) from Florida A & M University in December 2010 under the mentorship of Dr. Seth Ablordeppey. She was designated as an Intramural NIAID Research Opportunity (INRO) Award fellow in 2008 by the National Institutes of Health / NIAID and did a summer internship at NIH in 2008 where she worked with Dr. Clifton Barry at the Tuberculosis Research laboratory. She joined Dr. Amy Newman’s lab as a postdoctoral fellow in the Medicinal Chemistry Section of the Molecular Targets and Medications Discovery Branch, Intramural Research Program of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA-IRP) where she is the recipient of the NIDA Scientific Director’s Fellowship for Diversity in Research, since 2011. Her current research interest focuses on the design and synthesis of 3-phenyltropane analogues as novel photoaffinity and fluorescent ligands to study the structure and function of dopamine and serotonin transporters and selective D3 receptor ligands for the development of medications toward the treatment of drug abuse and addiction.
