Research Interests
Dr. Anna Loftén joined Dr. Leggio’s laboratory as a visiting postdoctoral fellow in August 2024. Dr. Loftén received her Medical Degree from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden in June 2018. Following this, she pursued clinical work at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital combined with PhD-studies under the supervision of Dr. Mia Ericson at the Addiction Biology Unit, at the University of Gothenburg, where she defended her Ph.D. thesis in May 2024. Her thesis work in experimental psychiatry focused on the role of cholinergic signaling in regulating dopamine-related effects of alcohol in rodent models with the aim of increasing the understanding of the neurobiology underpinning alcohol use disorder and to finding novel pharmacological targets for treatment of the same. As a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Leggios lab, Dr. Loften is pursuing translational clinical research projects related to the mineralocorticoid/aldosterone system in alcohol and substance use disorders.
