Research Interests
Ana Sofia Rico Rozo joined Dr. Lorenzo Leggio’s CPN laboratory in June 2024. She received her B.A. from Barnard College of Columbia University in Neuroscience and Behavior in 2024. During her undergraduate career, under Dr. Kristen Pleil, she studied the effect of ovarian estrogen (E2) on alcohol binge drinking and anxiety-like behavior in mouse models at Weill Cornell Medicine, focusing on the activity of corticotropin releasing factor (CRF) neurons located in the bed nucleus of the stria terminalis (BNST). For her senior thesis on this subject, she was awarded The Neuron Prize for Distinguished Accomplishment in Neuroscience by the Department of Neuroscience and Behavior at Barnard College. Her current research interests are focused on the interaction between alcohol use disorders and neuroendocrine systems in the context of transgender and women’s health. Under the mentorship of Dr. Lorenzo Leggio, she will be conducting clinical studies of neuropsychopharmacology interventions in people with alcohol use disorder (AUD) by supporting in-patient and outpatient procedures.
