Research Interests
Alexandria Bernal received her B.S. in Biopsychology from the University of California Santa Barbara in 2019. While at UCSB she spent time in Dr. Karen Szumlinski’s lab assisting in binge-like alcohol-drinking experiments in mice and in Dr. Javier Read de Alaniz’s lab conducting research on photochromic compounds, known as Donor-Acceptor Stenhouse Adducts. After receiving her B.S degree, Alexandria Joined the Integrative Neurobiology Section of the Molecular Targets and Medications Discovery Branch as a Post-Baccalaureate IRTA Fellow. During her time in Dr. Sergi Ferre’s lab she will be using a brain iron-deficient rat model to study the mechanisms involved in restless leg syndrome (RLS), and to investigate whether opioids can be used as effective therapeutic treatments for RLS.
