Aketzali Garcia, Ph.D.

Research Interests

Aketzali obtained her undergraduate degree in Psychology and her Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). During her Ph.D., she worked with Dr. Ranier Gutierrez at the Center for Research and Advanced Studies (CINVESTAV), where she studied sucrose palatability in lateral hypothalamic neurons. She joined the Aponte Lab in January 2022 as a postdoctoral fellow. Aketzali is interested in understanding the hypothalamic circuits that control feeding behavior and integrate satiation signals, as well as those encoding thermal and chemical nociceptive information.
