About the Lab
The prelinical pharmacology section employs multimodal imaging and in-vivo electrophysiological approaches in animal models of drug use and abuse to better understand the systems neuroscience of addiction. Our goal is to use that understanding to create interventions that reduce drug use.
Ongoing projects:
- Determining the neural basis of economic choice between opiates and food rewards both at a systems, and single unit level
- Supporting medications development for opiate dependence with clinically relevant animal models
- Conducting preclinical investigations of the neurobiological consequences of transcranial magnetic stimulation to better understand its potential use for treating addiction
- Helping to establish a chemogenetics toolbox for manipulating identified circuits in order to bias choice in animal models away from opiates
