Kenner Rice, Ph.D.
Dr. Kenner Rice from the National Institute on Drug Abuse’s (NIDA) Intramural Research Program (IRP) was recently named as a 2017 Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI). This is the highest professional accolade bestowed to academic inventors who have demonstrated a prolific spirit of innovation in creating or facilitating outstanding inventions that have made a tangible impact on quality of life, economic development, and welfare of society. The 2017 Fellows are named inventors on nearly 6,000 issued U.S. patents. Dr. Rice is Chief of the Drug Design and Synthesis Section of the Molecular Targets and Medications Discovery Branch at the NIDA IRP and also runs the Chemical Biology Research Branch at the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse. He the only scientist from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to be named as a Fellow this year, bringing the NIH total to four. He will be recognized in a January issue of the Chronicle of Higher Education and will be inducted on April 5, 2018 at the NAI Seventh Annual Conference to be held in Washington, DC.
