Publication Brief Description
“Classification of psychedelics and psychoactive drugs based on brain-wide imaging of cellular c-Fos expression” by Aboharb et al uses brain-wide quantification of drug-evoked c-Fos expression to classify psychedelics and other psychoactive compounds based on their neural activation patterns. The high-dimensional c-Fos maps were analyzed with multivariate statistical classification to group the compounds according to similarities in their brain-wide activation signatures. This study shows that psychedelics and other psychoactive drugs leave distinct, classifiable brain-wide patterns of neuronal activation, and that these patterns can be used to organize drugs into functional categories.
