Research Interests
Jonathan Tyrrell joined Dr.’ Leggio’s Clinical Psychoneuroendocrinology and Neuropsychopharmacology (CPN) lab in July 2025. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Emory University in 2025. Prior to college, Jonathan obtained licensure as an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician. Throughout his undergraduate studies, he held various clinical roles, including providing emergency medical services in Newton and Fulton counties, assisting in medication-assisted treatment (MAT) clinics in New Hampshire, volunteering as a Disaster Health Services responder with the American Red Cross, and working in urgent care and emergency room settings.
On campus, Jonathan founded Emory Rehab Advocates, an organization aimed at destigmatizing disability and promoting education on healthcare systems, including Medicare and Medicaid. He also pursued research under the mentorship of Dr. Maya Fayfman and Dr. Marcos Schechter in the Department of Endocrinology and Lipid Metabolism at Grady Memorial Hospital. His research focused on lower limb complications of diabetes, particularly glycemic patterns in diabetic foot ulcers and demographic and clinical distinctions between patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
Under the mentorship of Dr. Leggio, Jonathan will support clinical research aimed at developing new interventions for individuals with addictive disorders.
