Research Interests
Elie Pommier graduated from McGill University in Montreal in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. He joined the NIDA-IRP in 2014 as an IRTA Postbaccalaureate Fellow in the Medicinal Chemistry Section of the Molecular Targets and Medications Discovery Branch. He analyzes selectivity and affinity of novel ligands for the dopamine D2-like family of receptors using radioligand binding assays. In addition, he is working with the Johns Hopkins Brain Science Institute (BSI) testing the in-vitro metabolism, pharmacokinetics and blood brain barrier penetration of novel D2-like ligands and dopamine transport (DAT) inhibitors synthesized in the Medicinal Chemistry Section, as well as for inhibitors of glutamate carboxypeptidase II (GCPII). GCPII has been shown to have potential as an alternative therapeutic approach for the treatment of a variety of neurodegenerative disorders associated with glutamate excitotoxicity.
