Research Interests
Anver Basha Shaik received his Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology and Chemistry from S. V. University in Andhra Pradesh, India and his Master’s Degree in Drugs & Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JUTNH), India in 2007. He obtained his Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry from JNTUH in 2015. His research was carried out at CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology in Hyderabad. He has awarded a CSIR-Junior Research Fellowship in 2009 and Senior Research Fellowship in 2011 from the federal government of India. In the Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacology Division, under the supervision of Dr. Ahmed Kamal, Anver focused his doctoral research efforts on the design and synthesis of novel pyrazole-based conjugates as potential tubulin polymerization inhibitors (cancer target).
He is currently a post-doctoral fellow in the Medicinal Chemistry Section of the Molecular Targets and Medications Discovery Branch, working in Dr. Amy Newman’s lab at the National Institute on Drug Abuse – IRP (NIH-NIDA/IRP) in Baltimore. His research interests include the design and synthesis of novel and selective D3 receptor ligands as potential therapeutics for substance use disorders.
