Rani Richardson, B.A.
Rani Richardson is enrolled in the MD/PhD program at the University of North Carolina. She is working on her PhD thesis at NIDA through the NIH Graduate Partnerships Program. Her research interests involve stress, addiction, and the gut-brain axis. Currently, she uses animal models to study the biological mechanisms of how stress and the gastrointestinal tract interact to impact alcohol-seeking behaviors. Ms. Richardson earned a B.A. in neuroscience and chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania.
About This Talk
Substance use disorder (SUD) is the current terminology for drug addiction. Ms. Richardson will discuss what constitutes a psychoactive drug, how initial use can progress to addiction, how an SUD is diagnosed, and effective treatment strategies.
