Alexandria Hughes, Ph.D., M.S.

Research Interests

Dr. Alex Hughes joined Dr. Leggio’s CPN laboratory as a Biostatistician in July 2026. She received her Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, where she investigated neuron-glia interactions in neurodevelopment. She subsequently earned an MS in Statistics from Texas A&M University and has provided statistical support for biomedical and epidemiological research since 2021. Prior to joining NIDA, she held positions as a Biostatistician at Virginia Commonwealth University and as a Data Scientist at the NIH Clinical Center’s Translational Biobehavioral & Health Promotion Branch.

Dr. Hughes has provided study design and analytic support for a range of clinical studies, including a multi-center study of COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness across five major U.S. health systems in partnership with the CDC, longitudinal assessments of circadian rhythm and microbiome dynamics in patients with Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD), and a retrospective cohort study of glaucoma prevalence in AUD patients in the NIH All of Us Research Program nationwide cohort. At CPN, she provides data management, analysis, and statistical support for randomized controlled trials and other translational projects.
